Friends in Service Helping just keeps on going

Friends in Service Helping FISH was launched in 2001 as an outreach offering to the community from St. Columba’s and All Saints by-the-Sea and has continued ever since. It is ecumenical in volunteer drivers and is a community service program for people living on the Boothbay peninsula (Southport to Edgecomb). People who are in need of a ride to and from any appointment for medical treatment, doctor’s appointment, dental care, eye care, physical or vocational rehabilitation or support groups can call and request a ride to and from those appointments. We have occasionally gone as far as Portland, and Pen Bay, but mostly to local area medical care, Miles and Mid Coast Hospitals and physician’s offices in those areas.

For the last year, FISH has been fortunate to have Maeve O’Connell answering the FISH phone and coordinating a driver to assist those that call in. I wish to thank her on behalf of all those she has assisted in the community for her dedicated service over this past year and wish her well in her new and future endeavors.

I am happy to introduce our new volunteer coordinator, Sandra Rumery. A member of St. Columba’s Church, and resident of Boothbay, she will be happy assist you as the new Coordinator for Friends in Service Helping. She is ready to take your telephone call after December 3, 2015.

The phone line will remain the same (FISH phone number is 207-633-4357 or HELP). It will be Sandra Rumery assisting you after December 3.

It is necessary for you to call at least 24 hours prior to your appointment and as soon as you know about needing a ride to a scheduled appointment so that a volunteer can be assigned to you in a timely manner.

We are a donation only volunteer service, so if you would like to donate to help with the phone bills and installation and etc., you can send checks to FISH, Care of Susan J. Wilson, P.O. Box 635, Boothbay, ME 04537. Thank you for your consideration.

We hope we can be of service. Call 633-HELP (4357).
