A friend indeed

    Dear Editor:

There are so many reasons why I love living in the Boothbay area. The number one reason are the people. Over the years, I have lived in many very nice communities but none as caring as this one. Both natives and those from away join together to help one another.

The other day, my car wouldn't start. I went back into the house to call my friend as I was supposed to pick her up and then go to a friend's house in Southport. She didn't answer the phone so I assumed she was waiting outside. Although I haven't been walking any distance for some time, I decided to walk to her house about a half mile down Route 96.

She saw me and we met half way. She was unable to use her car as her husband taken it to the Y. We decided to ask a friend who lives just down the road. So I rested on a wall while my friend walked to her house.

A gentleman was working at another friend's house across the street and saw my friend walking. He asked if he could help. My friend replied that she needed a ride to Southport. He didn't hesitate a moment and said he would take her (and me, too) and he did. He even asked if we needed a ride home.

Thank you, Jon Pratt. We will do as you suggested and "pass it forward" to help someone in need.
