Fourth of July on the Common

Sat, 07/11/2015 - 10:30am

    Dear Editor:

Mother Nature provided us with a perfect day for our 29th annual Fourth of July celebration on the Boothbay Common. We were also blessed with an excellent turnout of folks who came to enjoy the festivities. It was a great honor to introduce our new town manager, Dan Bryer!

Sincere thanks to the Boothbay Region Community Band for its wonderful music, which is greatly enjoyed year after year.

Arthur Webster made his “annual” appearance with his wonderful music. Arthur was an honoree as the Grand Marshal of the Windjammer Days Parade this year! Other musicians this year included Rick Limouge of Jefferson, the Carousel Music Theater singers and, of course, the ever-popular Danny Beal. Thanks to these talented musicians who graciously volunteer their time.

Much gratitude to our ticket lady, Kay Evans, and to Judy Dorr for setting up and running the fundraiser raffle, which will help to send the Splash into Science students on a science trip to Florida next spring.

We wish to express our appreciation to the following for their donations of goods and services: Mill Cove Lobster Pound, York Fischer for ice delivery, Hannaford, Yellowfront Grocery, Pepsi Bottling Company, the Boothbay Fire Department, the town of Boothbay, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, the Boothbay Register, Giles Rubbish and Wayne Closson.

Many thanks to the volunteer chicken barbecue workers: “Chief” Win Russell, John Leonard, Pam Wiley, Pam and John Pasch, and all of the others, including the barbecue helpers and servers. Our gratitude to all who donated pies and other desserts, and to Jane Homer and her helpers who did a great job!

Many thanks to our Hot Dog King, John Bertolet, who takes great pride in his tasty hot dogs, his dependable assistant, Estelle Appel, and joining him this year, our State Rep. Stephanie Hawke and helpers.

The Conlin family, Eve, Bob and their children, did a magnificent job of providing games for the children. The layout was most unique and creative for all ages. Thanks for your wonderful effort!

Thank you to Vicki Huskins for the very nice setup of the Arts & Crafts Show!

The Boothbay Civic Association would like to thank all who came to share in the festivities, and to enjoy the day!
