Rainy weather forced the Boothbay Civic Association to move its Fourth of July celebration to Saturday. This was only the second time weather forced a delay in the event’s 28-year history.

When the sun emerged on July 5, the day-long event drew hundreds for field games, craft fairs and music. The Community Band started off the day by playing the “Star Spangled Banner” at the gazebo. State Representative Bruce MacDonald provided additional musical entertain on his violin.

Despite heavy July 4 rain, people visited the various the merchants congregated on the town commons during the weekend. Boothbay Harbor resident Sarah Caron spent time during Friday’s rain shower with her cousins trying to solve brain teasers and other puzzles.

“There’s usually a whole lot more going on,” Caron said. “But with the rain, it seems playing these brain teasers are the best way to pass the time.”

The BCA held its annual barbecue chicken dinner from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The meal included a piece of chicken, cole slaw, potato salad, corn bread, pie and a drink. The BCA charged $10 for the meal. Organizer Joan Rittall said about 190 meals were sold.
