The Central Lincoln County YMCA announced this week a Maine charitable foundation has awarded the organization $50,000 toward its capital campaign. This $50,000, in addition to the anonymous donor who matched donations up to $25,000 that came in through Dec. 31, 2016, has the YMCA $100,000 closer to their phase one goal of $6 million.

Since 2015, the Y has embarked on a capital campaign to raise funds to build a sustainable new facility where the Y can continue its mission to be a resource, a safe space, and a gathering place for all. To date, $5.2 million has been raised toward its $6 million phase one goal. Phase one of the facility design includes a new fitness center, a teaching kitchen and communal space, an elevator, elevated track, an open lobby and welcome center, an intergenerational room, a circulation spine from the front of the building to the new suite of locker rooms and an additional studio for fitness classes. Phase Two completes the project with the addition of an aquatic center and family locker room.

Meagan Hamblett, CEO, CLC YMCA, said, "We are so close to meeting the construction budget and now we would like to pause to celebrate our generous donors and the work of many people and businesses that have helped us reach this significant milestone of $5.2 million. We’re excited about the many opportunities the new facility will bring to this community. We will continue to fundraise throughout the winter with a plan to break ground in May.”

Dennis Anderson, board chair of the CLC Y, added, “This award reflects the importance of working together to strengthen our community. We thank this Maine Foundation for believing in the mission of the Y and the future of our community.”
