Chester F. Fossett of Boothbay Harbor, who has served as Lincoln County Register of Probate since 1987, announced last week that he is retiring and will not seek the Register of Probate position as a write-in candidate. Fossett was also elected County Treasurer in 1970.

Instead, Fossett is supporting his Register of Probate deputy and office clerk, Catherine Moore, as a write-in candidate for the position in the upcoming November election.

Moore, a registered Republican from Jefferson, is a graduate of Lincoln Academy in Newcastle and Mid-State College with an associate degree in business management.

Prior to becoming Deputy Register of Probate in June 2014, she worked as Deputy Town Clerk in Jefferson and as a customer service representative at Tilton Insurance Agency in Jefferson, as well as Registry of Deeds Clerk and Clerk of Probate.

Moore has also served on the Jefferson Planning Board and Board of Appeals, served as an election clerk for the town of Jefferson, served as Jefferson's public librarian, is a former member of the Jefferson Fire and Rescue Auxiliary, was chairman of Jefferson's Bicentennial celebration and currently serves as a trustee of the Jefferson Public Library.

She and her husband Matthew live in Jefferson and own and operate Moore Automotive.
