Does anybody care? They do in Boothbay Harbor.

There are 46 endangered lighthouses on the June 2014 "Doomsday List" prepared by the American Lighthouse Foundation. How long will they last?

I am a lighthouse engineer and a volunteer who helped guide the Cuckolds Rescue. I have also been involved with other lighthouse rescues, all in desperate need of the strong volunteer leadership and resources that saved the Cuckolds Light.

Do you in Boothbay Harbor know how fortunate you are to have so many people in your community who were willing to step up to the task, rescue your offshore lighthouse, and even open it to the public? The criticism that I have read is misplaced. You should be so proud of the countless volunteers who have given new life to the Cuckolds Light.

Learn more about the enormous challenges involved in saving our neglected lighthouses and say "Thank you!" Forty-six other communities would be thrilled to have your good fortune.
