Letter to the Editor

Forever in her debt

Wed, 06/01/2016 - 10:15am

    Dear Editor:

I would like to take the opportunity to publicly thank Sarah Sherman McGrail for her tireless effort toward publishing her new books, “Looking Back Volumes I and II,” which describe the war effort in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Her books accurately describe what actually happened through the interviews with veterans of both (conflicts), telling their side of the story.

Sarah worked with Charles “Chuck” Malharis and Senator Susan Collins to present me with a U.S. flag flown over the White House and my Bronze Star medal after 45 years.

Sarah and Chuck presented them to me at Sarah’s book-signing and “Welcome Home” party for all of us vets who never really got welcomed back into society.

I am very honored and humbled, but saddened as well, because all of my fellow war veterans deserve the same honor and much more. So, I would like to accept the honor on their behalf also.

Sarah is also working toward getting Barry Sherman’s and Pat Farrin’s Purple Heart medals, which they so rightly deserve.

I know I am speaking for all of us when I say that we’ll be forever in her debt. Thanks.

    Dennis Andrews
