Flu shots available at Health Center

Wed, 03/07/2018 - 10:15am

Every year approximately two thirds of Americans get a flu shot which provides protection from the flu or limits its effect. Up to 49,000 Americans, primarily older adults die of flu or related illnesses every year, and this year there is a particularly virulent strain, H3N2. It is more urgent than ever to get protection and it is not too late as there are still outbreaks occurring across the country. This time of year many people are flying south to escape the cold, and airplanes, where people are confined, can create a place where flu can be transmitted.

The Boothbay Region Health Center, located in the Small Mall on Townsend Ave., still has a supply of vaccinations for flu. Hours by appointment or walk-in are: Monday 8:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.; Tue.-Fri. 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sat. and Sun. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Volunteers at the health center will transport people who need a ride. Call the center at 633-1075 if transportation is needed.
