Flowers for fun

Precious Petals, with the emphasis on the quality and combination of flowers,  was the theme for the August "Flowers for Fun," design program run quarterly at the Boothbay Region Garden Club.  The program encourages members to create their own flower designs that must meet a certain pre-determined standard.  The emphasis changes with each new program and can highlight, for example, the size or shape of the arrangement, how colors are combined or what part the container plays in the enhancement of the design.

In a fun and non-judgmental atmosphere, the  flowers are critiqued according to the given set of criteria.  According to Carol Lingard, flower design chair for BRGC,  just like precious metals, flawless flowers, or" Precious Petals" are worthy of our investment — in time and energy. This year's series of Flowers for Fun will continue to follow the precious metals theme with Autumn Gold in October, Silver Bells in February, and Copper Pennies from Heaven in April.
