Florence E. Barter

Florence E. Barter, 92, died Aug. 21, 2015, at Winship Green in Bath.

She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Boothbay to Willie Emerson and Bessie Campbell Emerson. Florence grew up on Barters Island and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School.

She began working cleaning homes. She worked for Carbone’s for over 20 years. She also worked as a seamstress on the side and later after she retired.

She was a member of the Boothbay Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and making crafts.

She really enjoyed visiting Barbara Blackman on Fish’s Island in New York. Florence and Barbara traveled together for many trips after Barbara moved to Maine. They traveled to many places over the years including the Rocky Mountains and Amish Country.

She was predeceased by her parents and by three brothers, Manton, Samuel and Albion Emerson.

She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Dickinson and her husband Morris of Boothbay, Roxanne Reed and her husband Eugene of Boothbay, and Terri Little of Belmont; sons, Sammy Barter and his wife Rosie of Wiscasset, Tommy Barter of Boothbay, Ernest Barter and his wife Eileen of Whitefield, and Gregory Barter and his wife Lucy of Boothbay Harbor; sisters, Lorraine Hodgdon and her husband Stanley of Boothbay and Thelma Gagnon of Portland; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren

A graveside service to celebrate Florence’s life will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Evergreen Cemetery, Barters Island Road in Boothbay. Al Roberts will officiate.
