Fishermen’s Festival Weekend 2014: Another successful year

Mon, 05/05/2014 - 5:30pm

The Miss Shrimp Pageant was a great success. Without the support of the contestants, parents, community and the volunteers, this would not of been accomplished. Thank you to all of the participants; you all did a great job, you all wear a crown each and every day and we’re all very proud of you.

We would like take this time to thank the following people for volunteering their time and hard work that goes into making the pageant and festival a success.

Special thanks to (co-chairs) Heather Casey and April Pinkham, our famous emcee Andrew Morley, volunteers Sarah Barter, Amy Grant and Brenda Blackman for being there for rehearsals during the week as well as helping the contestants back stage with whatever their needs may be. Thanks to Ryan Casey, Corey Pottle, Heather Casey, Ashley Lowery, Kathleen Pearce and Leon Blackman for helping with set up, decorating and clean-up. Thanks to Robbie Ham and Michael Gudroe for handling the audio during rehearsals that week as well as the night of the big event. Thanks to Emily Moore for singing the national anthem. Thanks to Jamie Campbell for helping back stage with hair and makeup the night of the event. Thanks to Eric Dunton for assisting us with our needs throughout the week at the high school.

Most of all, thanks to the parents of the contestants and the contestants themselves. It takes a lot of hard work for all of you to be able to pull off a Miss Shrimp Pageant.

Thanks to our local "First Lady," Estelle Appel, for helping at the front door with tickets and meeting the needs of the staff when ever asked. Thanks to Michelle Hahn and Lucille Pendleton for helping sell 50/50 tickets. Thanks to Ashley Lowery and Kathleen Pearce for selling T-shirts at the pageant.

Special thanks to the judges Leah Timberlake, Kimberly Reed, Caroline Roberts, Mohamed Osman and Leon Blackman. This is a very difficult job for the judges. The contestants are judged on poise, personality, appearance and talent. It’s based on a scoring system.

The judges do not know who the winners are until the auditor hands the final judging card to the emcee. Also, special thanks to the auditor Sue Norton who was responsible for tallying the scores for the final decision, which is not an easy job.

Thanks to J. Edward Knight for donating the trophies, Boothbay Region Greenhouses for the tuxedo and flowers, The Copy Shop for the programs, The First, N.A. for donating a gift card for the Miss Shrimp 2013, John Fields of John Edwards Jewelry and Design for making the beautiful crown rings for the top three contestants, A Silver Lining for donating dory necklaces and the gift bags for the top three contestants, and Boothbay Sea & Science Center for the gifts for the top three contestants as well.

Thank you to all who made all of the events and Fishermen’s Festival weekend a huge success.

As you come in contact with any of the contestants, volunteers or committee members, please be sure to thank them for their time so that we can continue to carry on the Fishermen’s Festival tradition.

Thanks to everyone that donated fish and other products for the fish fry. Thank you to all other volunteers that helped with the breading of fish as well as frying the fish. We had many volunteers that helped pull this event off. You all know who you are and we thank you.

Thanks to Peter and Kathryn Sullivan and others for tending the food tent. Thank all of you who purchased pot buoys to paint for the contest, Kathleen Pearce, Sandra Peaslee and others who tended the tent; both were a great success. Thanks to the volunteers that helped sell T-shirts.

Many thanks go to Ryan Casey’s dad (The Red Lobster) and his stepmom for selling the 50/50 at the water park.

Thanks to Harbor Embroidery for being able to help us with T-shirts and other embroidery items as well. Thank you to all of the sponsors and people that donated.
