Local First Federal Savings Bank employees kept the memory of a former employee alive in February through a fundraiser focused on her love of animals. Anita Hodgdon worked for the Boothbay Harbor branch for 33 years. She died in January. Last month, her former co-workers celebrated her life with a fundraiser for Lincoln County Animal Shelter.

Hodgdon adopted several furry friends from the Edgecomb shelter in the past 17 years. She also regularly donated pet food and cat litter, according to shelter employees. After Hodgdon’s death, First Federal Savings Bank branches in Boothbay Harbor, Wiscasset, Damariscotta and Bath collected cash donations and pet products.

Customers donated $5,186.57. The bank matched it and presented shelter representatives with a $10.373.14 check on March 9.

“She was a great lover of animals. So we thought this was a great way to honor her,” said First Federal Savings Bank Vice President Jean Huber. The shelter is located at 27 Atlantic Highway.
