First day of school information for AOS 98 schools

Including meal prices, reduced price meals and school cancellations

    The first student day is Wednesday, Aug. 30 for Boothbay region schools grades Pre-K-9; Southport Central School and Edgecomb Eddy School. Boothbay Region High School students in grades 10-12 will begin Thursday, Aug. 31.

    Early release days: Starting Aug. 30, every Wednesday is an early release day for Boothbay region and Edgecomb schools; in Boothay school is dismissed at 1:30 p.m. and in Edgecomb at 1:45.

    School hours - Boothbay Region High School(BRHS): 7:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Boothbay Region Elementary School BRES) : 7:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Edgecomb Eddy School: 8 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.: Southport Central School 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

    Meal prices - Breakfast and lunch will be served on the first day of school at the following rates per meal: BRES (Gr. 1-8): breakfast - $1.40, lunch - $2.75; BRHS (Gr. 9-12): breakfast - $1.50, lunch - $3; Edgecomb Eddy School: breakfast - $1.40, lunch - $2.75; S outhport Central School: breakfast - $1.40, lunch – $2.40.

    Meal policy for BRES and BRHS - Breakfast and lunch will be served on the first student day. Kindergarten and all new students will be given a number the first day of school with a picture of the pin-pad and instructions. Parents of elementary and high school students can prepay meals by the month, week or day. No charging of meals will be allowed. Menus will be published in the school newsletter, the Boothbay Register and aos98schools.org website.

    Grades 5-12 may purchase a la carte items such as water, juice, baked chips, popcorn, pretzels, crackers, etc. Students need to have parent’s permission to either debit their account or to pay cash for these items. If a parent chooses not to allow a child to participate in the a la carte program, please contact the Food Service Department. If you have any questions about the program, please call 633-7131.

    Free and Reduced Meal Program information - Children from families whose income is at or below the levels shown below are eligible for meals free or at a reduced rate. A letter and attached application for free or reduced priced meals will come home with your child on the first day of school or contact the principal of your child’s school for an application. Please sign and return this form even if you do not apply for free or reduced priced meals. We look forward to welcoming your children to the cafeteria this fall.     No school announcements - Parents in AOS 98 school system should tune in to the following stations for no-school announcements: Television: Channel 6 (WCSH) - Channel 8 (WMTW) - Channel 13 (WGME)

    Alert Program – An electronic program designed to alert parents/guardians of school cancellations and updates via phone/computer. If you have not been set up with this program and would like to be, contact the school your child attends for directions.

    Minors with two work permits - Minors under 16 are allowed only one active work permit during the school year. During the summer months, the minor can have up to two active permits at one time. Starting Tuesday, August 30, those students who have two permits will have to stop working at one of the jobs and mail the inactive permit to the Bureau of Labor Standards, Department of Labor, 45 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333
