Fill your freezer with Maine blueberries

It’s no secret: in Maine, we love blueberries. Whether we get them at the farmers market, at a roadside stand, at the co-op, or pick them ourselves, fresh blueberries are part of the Maine summer. We also love to enjoy berries year-round in pies, pancakes, jam, and smoothies. At Rising Tide Community Market in Damariscotta, the goal of stocking your freezer with berries is easily accomplished.

Each summer, Rising Tide partners with Blue Barrens Farm of Columbia, Maine, to offer five-pound boxes of clean, fresh, certified organic low bush blueberries for only $19.99 each. Berries are delivered fresh in plastic-lined freezer-ready boxes. There are three delivery dates to choose from: Aug. 6, Aug. 20, and Sept. 3 (all Thursdays); orders are due by noon on the day before delivery. The preorder is open to everyone in the community.

In 2014, Rising Tide customers purchased 2,745 pounds of blueberries through this preorder. Every year, customers rave about the flavor and quality of Blue Barrens Farm’s berries.

There are two ways to order blueberries: call Rising Tide at 207-563-5556 and ask for the produce department, or see the sign-up sheet near the registers in the store. Payment is due when berries are picked up. More details are available at www.risingtide.coop/blueberries.
