In favor of Route 27 plan

Tue, 10/25/2016 - 3:00pm

    Dear Editor:

I went to the first meeting last winter at the YMCA about the Route 27 Corridor Improvement plan. I immediately recognized that if something was not done to improve traffic flow that we could be potentially facing fatalities at the confusing, failed intersection.

I am not an engineer but I am a decently educated, thoughtful fellow and I see this as a no-brainer. There are businesses and attractions in Boothbay that are growing and will continue to grow with or without a roundabout. Growth will not be stopped.

We, as citizens of this town, have an opportunity to improve our infrastructure at no cost to the taxpayer. It will save lives, it will improve traffic flow, and it will help businesses.

I think the benefits will include a rise in property values as it will improve the business climate, the quality of our restaurants, shops and hotels will all improve all of which will attract more tourists. It will offer opportunities for the younger generations to work, save for college, open a business and create a future for themselves in Boothbay.
