Beginning Nov. 25 and running through Jan. 2, 2016, Gleason Fine Art in Boothbay Harbor celebrates the season with its annual “Eye Catchers: Artwork for Holiday Giving” show.

Imagine opening a beautifully wrapped present and instead of the usual shirt, tie or bathrobe, you find an exquisite still life of spider mums by revered artist Helen St. Clair; or a cozy, snow-draped Maine home in winter by Mitch Billis; or a tiny sunset painted in blazing blues, yellows, and pinks by East Boothbay artist Andrea Peters.

That’s the thinking behind “Eye Catchers: Artwork for Holiday Giving” - the joy of receiving a gift that is simultaneously original, personal and lasting.

Besides St. Clair, Peters and Billis, the gallery also has a bevy of small paintings by Damariscotta artists John Neville and Jessica Ives; by new Maine resident Kevin Beers, and by Cranberry Island artist Henry Isaacs.

For enthusiasts of David Witbeck’s humorous fishermen holding big-eyed fish, we just received a fresh batch of Witbeck’s woodblocks. And if it’s three-dimensional art your loved one craves, how about a sea-creature-entwined bowl by Roque Bluffs ceramic artist Tim Christensen; or an ocean theater of folk artist Jeff Barrett’s “happy fish”?

Gleason Fine Art is located at 31 Townsend Avenue and is open year round. Holiday hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
