‘Extra Helping’ event for United Way Oct. 19

Mon, 10/16/2017 - 1:00pm

On Thursday, Oct. 19, Midcoast residents are invited to eat out at local restaurants as part of United Way’s “Extra Helping” event. A portion of the participating restaurants’ revenue will go to support the community through local United Way-funded programs.

“Enjoying a meal out while knowing you are helping people in need in our community – that’s a recipe for a good day!” said Bill Brillant, United Way Campaign Chair. “United Way of Mid Coast Maine thanks the local restaurants participating in giving “Extra Helping” to people in need in our community.”

Participating restaurants include Sarah’s Café in Wiscasset, S. Fernald Country Store in Damariscotta, Broadway Deli, Byrnes Irish Pub and Irish Pub II, El Camino, Henry and Marty Restaurant, Joshua’s Tavern, and Starlight Café. Visit United Way’s website for a complete listing: uwmcm.org.

“Please go out and eat at one of these restaurants on Extra Helping Day, October 19,” said Brillant. “You’ll be joining in a fun community event to help our neighbors.”

Approximately 20,000 residents of Lincoln County and Midcoast Maine were helped last year by United Way-funded programs improving people’s health, education, and financial stability. United Way’s 38 partner agencies include Central Lincoln County YMCA, Coastal Kids Preschool, Mobius, Inc., New Hope for Women, Parent Program of Mid Coast Maine, Healthy Kids, Spectrum Generations - Meals on Wheels, and many more.

United Way’s fall campaign kicked off on Sept. 12 and ends Nov. 9. This year’s goal is $1.8 million to support local programs. Donations can be sent to United Way of Mid Coast Maine, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, ME 04530.
