Letter to the Editor

End the LePage era

Mon, 10/20/2014 - 6:15am

    Dear Editor:

Our loose cannon governor has again done his "ready, shoot, aim" act for what appears to be purely political reasons that do nothing but create fear and mistrust.

His comments regarding the release of the patient at MaineMed after testing negative for the Ebola virus, rather than letting the correct personnel (Maine CDC) issue the statement, are nothing more than childish grandstanding. Even worse though was LePage's allegation that the patient may not have proper documents to be in the country (code for "illegal alien") as the more significant problem.

LePage's small-minded effort to raise an issue that is totally outside the issue of Ebola is simply another example of LePage's on-going tactic of never letting the facts get into the way of his provincial mind set and divisive antics. Additionally, LePage is very near violation of federal HIPAA rules intended to protect the health confidentially of all people in our state and country. MaineMed did an excellent job in handling a "low probability case" with professionalism and appropriate confidentiality, while keeping the public properly informed. LePage's antics taint that process.

We do not need this fear mongering character in the position of governor. Four more years would be a continuing disaster by an individual whose factless opinion continues to reduce Maine's future prospects. I continue to encourage all voters in our area and state to choose a successor to LePage and restore Maine's reputation in the U.S. for moderate, bipartisan, constructive, and thoughtful leadership.

Both Michaud and Cutler are qualified to be governor — for me this is a positive situation and one that I will decide prior to the November election — to remove the prospect of four more negative years of LePage. This means that while I do support Michaud today, I will easily vote for either of the candidates to end the LePage era.
