John F. Andrews Sr.

The end of an era

The community joined the Andrews’ family at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor to pay tribute to the life of Dr. John F. Andrews Sr., who died on Dec. 1.

The Sanctuary was filled with love, song, scripture, tales of glory, laughter and tears — and, a barbershop quartet.

A reception followed the 75-minute celebration of life, upstairs at the Opera House, catered by the Boathouse Bistro.

Photo boards gave friends and community members a glimpse into the doctor’s life — one depicted his early years, another his interests beyond family and his medical practice, particularly his love of flying and lending his deep voice to the Nor’easters Barbershop Quartet.

Many people commented, “He was quite a man,” “He was larger than life”; while others recalled what a great doctor he was.

Yet there was one phrase uttered more often than another, “It’s the end of an era.”

Indeed.

Fly high, Doc Andrews — no J3 required.
