Edwin Crews ("Grandpa") Bliss, 88, of Boothbay Harbor, died at his home with his loving family by his side on April 16, 2014.

Edwin was born in Miami, Fla., on June 23, 1925. He was kind, generous and always willing to help others. His gentle and approachable personality made him an wonderful husband, stepfather, grandfather and friend. He was a dedicated person and gave his best in everything that he did.

In his later years he enjoyed simple things, such as gardening, playing board games, riding his bike and catching lobsters in the nearby bay. He also had great appreciation for the fine arts, specifically for painting.

Edwin was a graduate of Brown University, class of 1947, where he received a degree in civil engineering. Immediately following college, Edwin started his practice, which led him to founding his own engineering company. Later, he created a new and successful business, Bliss & Nytray Structural Engineering, with partner John Nytray. The company has developed several important projects in the country and overseas. Although Edwin retired at a young age, Bliss and Nytray continues in business.

In his free time Edwin was a lifelong, avid fisherman. He was a member of The Rod and Reel Club of Greater Miami, and in 1981 became its president. He also was a Rotarian for well over 20 years, where he was an active member and participated in a variety of activities to help the community.

Edwin was predeceased by his wife of 21 years, Luz Elena Bliss, and is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Anne Bliss of Miami Fla., and three stepchildren and their spouses: Nora Segovia Reed and John Reed of Boothbay Harbor; Eduardo and Miriam Segovia of Houston, Texas; Ruben and Yvette Segovia, of Eustis, Fla. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Lorena Borjas Mancini and husband Stephen Mancini, Melissa Borjas, Joshua Reed, Gabriel and Elena Segovia, and Ryan and Remy Segovia.
