Edgecomb school celebrates student poetry

Wed, 12/17/2014 - 2:00pm

Last week, Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) seventh and eighth grade students celebrated the publication of their second class anthology of the school year with a poetry reading.

Each student read aloud at least two pieces he or she had published in the collection while the group listened, read along, and enjoyed homemade chai, hot chocolate and baked goods.

The middle schoolers were inspired by one another's stunning voices, topics and techniques. A discussion following the reading allowed them an opportunity to brainstorm new topics and approaches for their writing, influenced by the work they had just read.

The seventh and eighth graders look forward to more poetry readings, as well as publications of anthologies centered around all the other genres they'll study in writing workshop this year — memoir, book review, persuasive essay, micro fiction and profile writing.

To visit CTL, located at 119 Cross Point Road, Edgecomb, when school is in session, prospective parents should call Scott MacDonald, Head of School, at 207-882-9706 to schedule a day to attend a whole-school morning meeting and take a tour of the facilities.
