Edgecomb Green, one of seven assisted living facilities Eldercare Network of Lincoln County operates, held a tea party Saturday for residents and friends at its facility at the former Eddy School.

“We have wonderful support from Edgecomb especially Edgecomb Community Church,” said resident Margaret Ellsworth. Church volunteers supplied an array of appetizers and sweets for the midday event.

Ellsworth said she was an early supporter of the “Greens” which offer small,  home-style facilities in Wiscasset,Damariscotta, Boothbay, Jefferson, Waldoboro, Round Pond and Edgecomb. “So many seniors can’t afford assisted living,” said Ellsworth, comparing costs at larger homes to the “Greens.”

Ellsworth showed a photograph of the former two-room Eddy School which was remodeled into the seven-room Edgecomb Green. The photo showed student Ruth Bryant and two of her sisters who attended the school.

Ellsworth said she and Connie Moore have become friends there although they came from the rival cities of Lewiston and Auburn. “It is great to have someone to talk to,” said Ellsworth. Ellsworth attended college and taught middle school in Farmingham before moving to New Harbor and then to Edgecomb Green last November.

She credited Dr. Alan “Chip” Teel for his work in developing the homes and the Eldercare Network.

“If we need him he will come,” home administrator Pamela George said of Teel.
