On Wednesday, Sept. 21, Troop 238 Eagle Scout candidate and Boothbay Region High School senior, Draco Peaslee, held a grand opening at the Boothbay Region Fish & Game Club for the handicap accessible ramp and new stairs project he oversaw and helped build.

The crowd of well wishers and club members were welcomed by Fish & Game Club President Dennis Blackman. Scoutmaster Sarah Sherman spoke about Draco’s determination that this was the right project for him, and Draco said a few words thanking all the volunteers and materials donors for whom he said the project wouldn’t have been possible without. They included: The Boothbay Region Fish & Game Club and its members, Brock Couillard, Rica Sawtelle, Joan Muchowski, Sue Shifflett, Moe Laprise, Donna Pottle, Mona Dennison, Eleanor Peaslee, Stephanie Hawke, Kim and Cory Peaslee, Dennis Blackman, Grover’s Hardware Store, Viking Lumber, E.M. Wood, Scott Campbell, Guy Peaslee, Steve Rubicam, Elbridge Giles, Ken Anderson, Linc Sample, Skip Shifflett, Rick MacFarlane, Duane and Mary Pinkham, Tammy Blackman, Joel Peaslee, Kristi Poole, Scoutmaster Sarah Sherman, and Troop 238 Scouts.

Allen Barter, a longtime member of the club, was present for the ribbon cutting ceremony and helped cut the ribbon with Draco. He noted that this was the first time he had been able to enter the clubhouse since he was a boy, and said that he had fond memories of attending a Boy Scout ice fishing derby there which brought Scouts from all over Lincoln County together.

Draco’s project is a fine example of the Boy Scout slogan “Do A Good Turn Daily,” or in this case Draco’s vision for his project has now made the Boothbay Fish & Game Club accessible to one and all. Congratulations Draco on a job well done!
