Dyer Stuck “Bud” Talley, 93, of Richmond, Va, died peacefully on March 8, 2015.

He was born in Syracuse, New York on November 17, 1921 to the late Dr. Dyer Beeler Talley and Ester Antoinette Stuck. Dyer was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Priscilla Stewart Talley and two sisters, Antoinette T. Michell and Jacqueline T. Castle.

He leaves behind three children, David Stewart Talley (Bente Kjos), Antoinette Talley Halstead (Eric), Michele Talley (John Wood); two granddaughters, Lesley Halstead Buttars (Dustin), Haley Halstead Lillibridge (Mathew); two great-grandsons, Myles Buttars and Jacob Lillibridge; and eight nephews and their families.

Dyer attended Fayetteville High School, lettering in four sports, and Dartmouth College where he played football and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He served four years in World War II in the 1st Marine Division and fought in four campaigns: Camp Gloucester, Guadalcanal, Peleliu and Okinawa.

For most of his adult life and well into retirement, Dyer enjoyed hiking, canoeing, golfing, making and refinishing furniture, and caning chairs.

He and Priscilla especially enjoyed over 25 years of retirement living in the family cottage on the east coast of Southport Island at Newagen.

When Dyer wasn’t outdoors or in his workshop you could find him reading or watching sports on TV, particularly golf, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Dyer was a proud American and a kind, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

A service and celebration of Dyer’s life will be held August 9 at the family’s summer cottage at Newagen.
