For members of the Down East Yacht Club, longer days, warmer nights and “The Commodore’s Luncheon” are sure signs that summer is indeed fast approaching. On Saturday, May 12, the Tugboat Inn in Boothbay Harbor, home base for the DEYC, served as the appropriate setting for this year’s Commodore’s Luncheon.

As if on cue, the weather was warm and bright for the annual event which drew a full house of hungry mariners to the event. At 1100 hours, Commodore Susan Pope welcomed DEYC members and guests before addressing the crowded room with several announcements.

She recognized and thanked Tugboat hostess Bonnie Stover for her help organizing the event and preparing the succulent menu. Next, she presented a thank you gift to DEYC member Bob McKay for designing the cover for our 2018 Roster.

A moment of silence was observed for members who passed away. Commodore Pope then invited the Past Commodores who were present to come forward to be recognized and gather for a picture. The group included Joe Blake, Bill George, Tim Parker, Winn Russell, Bob Wheeler, Skip Williams and Dick Wood.

The upcoming summer calendar was the next item on the agenda. The Launching Party at Hodgdon Yachts, the Mini-cruise, Day-Trippers events, and a new addition to the already full schedule is an evening picnic and presentation at Burnt Island.

Cruise Captain Ron Richardson, adorned in a special Captain’s hat, courtesy of “practical joker” P/C Bob Wheeler, presented the busy Summer Cruise schedule. The cruise promises to be a memorable one indeed.

The buffet proved to be very popular with an assortment that included homemade French toast, spinach quiche, home fries, sausage, fruit bowl, assorted muffins and bagels, juice and coffee.

Next up is the Launching Party. You can count on sunny skies, fair winds and calm seas.
