On May 13, the Down East Yacht Club gathered at the Tugboat Restaurant to open the season of summer fun. Commodore Tim Parker and wife Pam, along with daughter Tali, welcomed 80-plus members and guests to this event. Parker reviewed the new DEYC events for 2017. All events were well received by the membership. Tugboat did not disappoint with a fantastic luncheon, from salads to desserts.

On June 10, the annual Launching Party was held at the Hodgdon Yacht Services in Southport. This event is always well attended and this year was no exception, with 212 members and guests enjoying the beautiful day. This year’s event was hosted by V/C Susan and Brent Pope. The “Woody Wagon” was officially open for the season, and the R/C Steve and Debbie Arkley offered up some new and exciting store items along with the always needed provisions. This year’s yummy finger food was prepared by Orne’s Catering of Boothbay Harbor.

We now look forward to the summer starting with the Windjammer celebration. Our own members, the Blake brothers, will be this year’s Grand Marshals – a great choice Windjammer Days Committee.
