Down East Yacht Club members put on their dancing shoes

On Aug. 20, the Down East Yacht Club danced the night away for its 50th Anniversary final celebration. Fifty-three member and guests, mostly “baby boomers,” danced to the live music of Annie and the Orphans, a great band from New Hampshire, “baby boomers” themselves.

The American Legion Hall in Boothbay was the setting for a great night of feasting on some of our old favorites: cheeseburgers, steamed hot dogs, chips and homemade chocolate chip cookies. We also munched on watermelon and fresh popped popcorn while we danced the night away.

Dancing is like riding a bike, no matter how long it has been, it’s something you rarely forget. Weather you danced till you dropped or sat and listened to the awesome songs of the past, a great time was had by all.

We wish to thank all those who work hard to make the night possible, hosts P/C Bill and Anne George, with the help of F/C Steve and Debbie Arkley and Com. George and Theresa Hamilton.

Perhaps now some of us “baby boomers” can hang up our dancing shoes after having a night to remember. Not!
