Down East Yacht Club: Inaugural Day Tripper Rendezvous

Fri, 07/03/2015 - 9:45am

The weather cooperated gloriously for the inaugural DEYC Day Tripper rendezvous on Saturday, June 27. Seven boats rafted together to share stories and lunch at Knickercane Cove on the east side of Trevett Island.

Commodore Dave Quist was the first DEYClubber to arrive from the landing in Townsand Gut to claim our mooring. Dana and Jane Mulholland enjoyed a cruise up the Sheepscot River from Little Christmas Cove on the Moor Mularky. They were the first boat on the mooring while David tied his “40-year-old hand-me-down” off the stern.

Event planner and long time mariner, Pete Yesmentes, was next to arrive with First Mate, Antoine Atallah on the Eleanor Yes. They cruised from Little River in East Boothbay for the event. Joanne Sharp-Minot traveled down from Oven’s Mouth in her Whaler to join the growing merriment just before Past Commodore Skip and Jane Williams captained the Teacher’s Pet over from Pig Cove.

Next to join the fun was Paul and Sharon Pinkham on the vessel Sea Spray from Decker Cove. Past Commodore Sandy and Karen Young navigated their Toy from Boothbay to complete the regatta.

After greetings were shared, the weather was discussed in great depth and a few beverages opened, we shared more stories and adventures while enjoying a variety of lunch choices. The group departed the mooring at about 1400 hours to savor the rest of the wonderful day.

Thanks to all who were able to participate. It was a great way to enjoy lunch, sun and camaraderie. We anticipate a larger group of DEYC Day Trippers at Damariscove Island on July 25.
