Dorothy “Dot” J. Pickering, 72, a lifelong resident of Wiscasset died Dec. 21, 2015 from complications of ALS “Lou Gehrig’s disease” at Cove’s Edge in Damariscotta with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Wiscasset on March 9, 1943, a daughter of Ernest H. and Dorothy F. Grover. In 1961, she graduated from Wiscasset High School and then married Maurice L. Pickering. She worked for many years at Mike’s Log Cabin.

Dot loved a good game of cribbage, hours of double solitaire with her sister Ann, discussing politics, gardening and spending time with her family. She cherished the weekly Wednesday night family gatherings at her home. She was a sports enthusiast and a devoted New England fan. In addition to the New England teams, she was a proud Wiscasset Redskin to the end! Dot will always be remembered for her kindhearted spirit and motherly ways; she was loved by all.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Maurice, on February 22, 2014. Dot was also predeceased by two brothers, Ernest “Buster” Grover Jr. and Merle Grover, and one sister, Alberta Titcomb.

She is survived by her son, Bill Pickering and his wife Lori; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Stanley Dalton and Penny and Tom Niles, all of Wiscasset; two brothers, Clayton Grover and his wife Shirley of Newcastle and Herbert Grover of Wiscasset; and two sisters, Ann Merry of Wiscasset and Shirley Bailey and her husband Don of Clinton. She leaves her five grandchildren, Kelsey and Zachary Pickering, Melissa and Heather Matthews, and Ben Masten; four stepgrandchildren, Jeremy Dalton, Cari Jewett, Shawn and Darren Niles. Dot was blessed with two step-great-grandchildren, Colin Dalton and Bristol Jewett and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at Wiscasset Community Center in the Senior Room on Sunday, Dec. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a private family burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.
