Disgraceful memorial

Mon, 08/04/2014 - 7:00am

    Dear Editor:

I have stopped many times to give honor to the men who fought to give us our beginning as the greatest free country in the world. I would venture to say that very few people in the region even know where this plaque is that marks the site of a fort over looking the harbor.

The plaque was dedicated and placed by The Daughters of the American Revolution in 1941. Eighty percent of the soldiers listed on that memorial are named Reed, colonels and captains.

The area is a disgrace to these valiant men. The weeds have taken over and there are numerous broken beer bottles at the base of the memorial.

One patriot has placed a new American flag at the memorial. That is the only way you you can locate it as you drive along the road. Hint: It is right next to the road.

What veterans’ organization will step up and take charge of this disgrace?
