David S. Sherman, 62, most recently of Machias, died Aug. 26, 2014 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

He was born in Waterville on Sept. 26, 1951, a son of Gerald C. and Emily A. (Riley) Sherman.

He attended Wiscasset schools and graduated from Wiscasset High School in 1970. He was in the Air Force from 1971 to 1975, serving in Colorado and Korea. He returned to Colorado to work in 1976. He was married briefly in the mid-1980s. For the rest of his life, David battled schizophrenia, but never lost his gentle soul and fond memories of Wiscasset.

David was proud and fortunate to be a veteran; the VA helped care for him many times through the years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Jayne Stockford of Alna and Robin Chesser of Middleburg, Florida, his brother, Dana Sherman of Cumberland; his cousins, Sally Sherman of Bristol and Nancy Roby of Wiscasset; stepmother, Sharon Strout of Cumberland; aunt, Sally Sherman of Wiscasset; and many nieces and nephews.
