Letter to the Editor

A dangerous area

Mon, 08/31/2015 - 12:45pm

    Dear Editor:

On the night of Aug. 25, upon returning home to Boothbay from Waldoboro around 8 p.m., in a downpour of rain, I had a scary experience — one that could’ve been fatal to me.

As I approached my turn off, Route 1 onto Cross Road in Edgecomb to reach Route 27, I could not see the entrance to Cross Road; it was very dark and the pouring rain made it worse. I did see a large, white arrow that I thought was pointing to the entrance of Cross Road, so I slowly turned. I was wrong. The turn put me sideways on the opposite side of the road and almost into a ditch. I quickly backed up onto the turn-off lane, then my headlights showed me the Cross Road entrance. I contribute my escaping any injury or fatality due to there was no traffic approaching at the same time, and I thank the dear Lord for that.

I write this letter to point out that this entrance to Cross Road can be very dangerous at night. It’s very dark and hard to see, and with all the traffic on Route 1, can turn into a dangerous situation like mine.

I have written to the Edgecomb selectmen to see if Cross Road could be lit up at the entrance to make it safer. I was extremely lucky, but someone else might not be.

Thank you for reading this and if it is also a concern for you, please contact the Edgecomb selectmen.
