Dance fitness, computer and more at Adult Ed

Upcoming classes at Boothbay Region Adult Ed include Nia which is mindful dance fitness, Understanding Dementia, and working with digital photos on your computer. If you haven't signed up for Estate Planning and Elder Law, an informative one evening class with Chip Griffin on Tuesday, Oct. 24 you can still do so.

In early November you can take Nia, mindful dance fitness, which is an energizing barefoot cardio workout that empowers people by connecting the body, mind, and soul. Nia is non-impact and adaptable to individual needs and abilities. Each class starts with setting a focus. We will then warm up, dance our hearts out, and cool down. Nia combines martial arts, dance, and mindful movement which leaves you energized, mentally clear, and emotionally balanced. The class is taught by Anna Fiedler, a certified Nia blue belt teacher who has taught Nia since 2007. This four-session class meets on Mondays, Nov. 6-27 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and the fee is $38.

Suddenly in Command is a safe boating course conducted by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary that teaches planning, preparation, and careful operation. Topics include: pre-underway planning, developing situational awareness, understanding how boats handle, VHF radio introduction including how to get help in an emergency, Coast Guard required safety equipment and regulations, and accident assessment and reporting. A two session class that meets on Nov. 6 and 8, 6:00-8:00 pm, and the cost is $40.

You've been taking great images with your digital camera, but now what do you do with them? In Organizing, Storing and Sending Digital Photos, learn how to: store your photos, make them easy to find and how to access your photos to email as well as how to burn a CD and resize your images. If your photos are on a laptop bring it to class. The date is Oct. 30, 6-8 p.m., and the fee is $15.

Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behaviors is a one evening informative talk and discussion presented by the Maine Alzheimer’s Association for caregivers and family on Nov. 2. Behavior is a powerful form of communication and one of the primary ways people with dementia express their needs and feelings as the ability to use language is lost. Understanding the person with Alzheimer's or dementia is not acting this way on purpose can help. The time is 6-7:30 p.m. and the fee is $8.
