Damariscotta River Grill prepares for Haiti Dinner

Tue, 01/06/2015 - 8:45am

The 2015 annual Haiti Benefit Dinner will be prepared this year by Damariscotta River Grill chef/owners Rick Hirsch and Jean Kerrigan.

"It is a pleasure for us at the Grill to contribute to this annual community effort to help those in need in Haiti,” Chef Hirsch said. “We look forward to the challenge of preparing some authentic Haitian food for the event.”

The annual dinner is organized by the Lincoln County Ecumenical Committee for Haiti, formed in the immediate aftermath of the 2010 earthquake which devastated Haiti’s capital, Port au Prince, and set back development efforts throughout the country. This year will be the sixth annual dinner to raise funds for the northwest Haiti town of Gros Morne.

The dinner menu will include new dishes made with ingredients imported directly from Haiti and a selection of Haitian inspired desserts.

In addition to Haitian food, coffee and punch, the dinner will feature Haitian artwork and handicrafts, recorded Haitian music, live music from the students of Maine Music Outreach, a raffle for a unique Haitian painting, and a just-for-fun trivia quiz.

The dinner will take place at St Patrick’s Church in Damariscotta Mills on Feb. 13 (snow date Feb. 20) at 6 p.m. Tickets, $25/adults and $15/children, are available at the Maine Coast Bookshop, Skidompha Library, Treats, and St. Patrick’s, St. Andrew’s, St. Denis, St. Giles, St. Philip’s, Bristol Congregational and First Congregational of Wiscasset churches.
