The Damariscotta Fire Department only needed a half-an-hour to knock down a small attic fire at Coves Edge in Damariscotta.

Responding to a call at 1:17 a.m. Thursday at the nursing home, which is located on Schooner Street, adjacent to Miles Memorial Hospital, there were no flames visible upon approach, Damarsicotta Fire Chief John Roberts said.

“We responded to a fire alarm and sprinkler activation at Cove's Edge,” he said. “There were no external flames, but there was smoke inside and a small fire in attic.”

There were no injuries reported from the fire or the smoke, although patients were evacuated from the building.

The fire was likely electrical, Roberts said, and there was some damaged caused by both the fire and the sprinklers.

The towns of Newcastle and Bristol assisted with mutual aide.
