CSD School Committee approves new budget

Superintendent Eileen King's March projection of what the 2014-2015 school budget might look like ended up being dead on. And on April 9, the Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor School Committee approved the $9,311,932.76 budget.

The 2014-2015 budget is up 2.48 percent, or $189,834 over the 2013-2014 budget of $9,048,572.

To arrive at the assessment to the towns, the projected revenue ($1,460,674) is subtracted, leaving $7,888,558 for the towns of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor.

The CSD school committee also approved an adult education operating budget of $62,938 with the assessment to the towns being $37,300.

The Town of Boothbay Harbor's portion, with 32 percent of the student population, is $2,547,489 ($60,747 over current year).

The Town of Boothbay's portion, with 68 percent of the student population, is $5,341,069 ($129,087 over the current year).

The school committee will also be voting on the adoption of the adult education budget for 2014-2015 of $37,300. The adult ed budget is always voted on separately as dictated by the charter.

The breakdown: Boothbay Harbor's assessment, based on 172.5 students/32 percent of the population, $2,431,739, up 2.44 percent/$60,747.

Boothbay's assessment, based on 368 students/68 percent of the student population, rises 2.48 percent/$129,087.

The annual school meeting, at which the community approves the next school year's budget will be held on May 19 at 6 p.m. in the Boothbay Region Elementary School gym.

Other items for committee voting

Continuing contracts were unanimously approved for: Barbara Greenstone,  Jessica Nadeau, Henry Schwehm, Lisa Sharp and Kristin Smith.

The following teachers were unanimously approved for second year probationary contracts: Desiree Scorcia and Lindsey Ingraham.

The meal service agreement between the CSD and Edgecomb School Committee:

The committee unanimously approved the following meal pricing increases: elementary student lunch will go from $2.55 to $2.60, breakfast from $1.35 to $1.40; milk will go from $.40 to $.50. At the high school, lunch will go from $2.80 to $2.85 with breakfast pricing remaining the same at $1.50.

The CSD/Edgecomb Meal Service Agreement was unanimously approved for another year by the school committee. The CSD provides a staff member at the Edgecomb Eddy School to serve lunches prepared, for the most part, at the Boothbay Region Elementary School ktichen.

The school committee's next meeting will be Wednesday, May 14 at 6 p.m.
