Focus on Agriculture in Rural Maine Schools (FARMS) will begin a series of morning cooking classes, to be enjoyed with popovers and tea, at the Community Kitchen above the Rising Tide Community Market in Damariscotta, on April 6. The cooking class theme for each month will be planned with spring and summer entertaining in mind.

Classes will be taught by FARMS Youth Program Director Karen Kleinkopf and FARMS board member Virginia Hill. Classes are at 9:30 to 11 a.m. on April 6 and 27; May 4 and 18; June 1 and 15; July and August dates to be determined. The cost of $10 per class includes a generous sampling of the finished products.

In addition, you’ll learn how to make “magical” popovers with a simple-to-prepare batter that is the basis for sweet or savory popovers, Yorkshire pudding and the Dutch Baby (sometimes called a German pancake, a Bismarck or a Dutch puff).

Attendees are invited to bring a favorite recipe to share during the popover tasting. Bring a friend or two as well!

Register by phone or email to FARMS, and include the following information: your name, phone number, and dates of classes; 207-563-1161 or email us at info@mefarms.org.

The Community Kitchen and Rising Tide are located at 323 Main Street in Damariscotta.
