Community Resources Council recognizes volunteers

The Boothbay Region Community Resources Council began the new year with its monthly board meeting; new board members were welcomed and all enjoyed a delicious hot and cold breakfast buffet, followed by the announcement of a new recognition program for council volunteers who have gone “The Extra Mile.”

The “Extra Mile Recognition” is an opportunity to honor volunteers throughout the council. There is a very dedicated group of board members who engage in the leadership of seven programs, and groups of volunteers from the community who, on a weekly basis, stock the Community Clothes Closet, pack and deliver healthy weekend food to families with children at nutrition risk. Our amazing group of well-seasoned Woodchucks continually seek hardwood from donors; drop trees, cut, chop, split, stack and deliver cords of firewood to neighbors who heat with wood and have no resources to purchase a cord of wood. There are volunteers who give of themselves with administrative support in the Community Navigator Office and upwards of 50+ who volunteer with Set For Success and others who dig deep in the Community Gardens. Without these dedicated volunteers, BRCRC outreach efforts would not be possible. The Extra Mile Recognition award is a way of honoring those who go above and beyond in service to the needy in our community.

The first to receive recognition was Scott Larson, board representative and member of Marketing and Development Committee. Scott was recognized for his generosity and support to the council’s first BRCRC publication, 2015-2016 Newsletter. Marti Booth, an administrative support person in the Community Navigator Office, was recognized for her unwavering efforts and volunteer hours.

Boothbay Region Community Resources Council is a 501 (c) (3) tax exempt collaboration of churches; an ecumenical effort, and community improvement movement organized over 12 years ago to serve the peninsula’s most vulnerable citizens. The council serves neighbors with real and challenging needs. With a Community Navigator at the “hub,” Boothbay region neighbors, with all manner of need, can make an appointment to meet with Amy Winston. Call 633-6272. Appointments take approximately 30 to 60 minutes. The Community Navigator office is located on the second floor of LincolnHealth's St. Andrews Urgent Care Center building.

New officers include board President Sue Burge, Vice President Holly Stover, Secretary Lori Grinnell, and Treasurer Bruce Johnson. Welcomed as new members to the board were Kerrin Erhard, college counselor at Boothbay Region High School, and Michael Maxim, Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce board president.

Board meetings will resume in the newly re-designed Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor on the third Tuesday of each month beginning at 8:30 a.m.
