Community Center News and Notes

Looks like Mother Nature is coming down on us again this week but here is what we have planned—all of which is subject to change if it gets bad out there.

For you veterans and families of veterans, David Patch continues to hold office hours each Monday from 10 a.m. to noon. He will meet you here at other times if you call him and make an appointment. Come in and ask a volunteer for his card so that you have his contact information. We are happy that David regards this as his “home” for veteran advice.

Would you enjoy rediscovering a traditional skill? Many of you sat at your grandmother’s knee and watched her crochet doilies and afghans and mittens and caps—some of you may have watched your fathers making nets and braiding rope. The members of our Crochet Group, which meets on Monday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon, would like to have you come in and learn from them. Why not give it a try?

On Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m., 40 children from the Lighthouse Learning Center are coming to the Community Center to have healthy snacks and make Valentines for their families and for the residents at St. Andrews Village. When they leave, they will each take a book home from the shelf so generously stocked by the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor.

The trip to Portland Stage to see “Babette’s Feast” is full to overflowing. We are holding our breath that the weather allows us to go on Thursday.

Forget about buying chocolates this Valentine’s Day—come to the Cookie Walk instead. We will have a vast array of beautiful cookies and, if you want to present them as a present, we will be happy to wrap the package for you. The walk begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday Februry 14 and we plan to stay open until 5 p.m. for the last minute shoppers.

Remember, if the schools are closed, we are closed - if there is a delay, we should open at 10 a.m., but it is worth a call to make sure we are here.

If you need the van to pick you up and take you to walk at the Y or if you need more information about our programs, call 633-9876.
