Charles L. Giles of Belmont, Massachusetts and Capitol Island, Maine died May 9, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 72.

Born in Emory, Georgia, the older of two children to the late Lloyd B. and Julia Lombard Giles, he lived most of his life in Belmont. His grandparents bought their summer home on Capitol Island in 1927 and it remains the family retreat today. He was a member of Payson Park Church in Belmont all of his life, was a deacon for many years and served on various committees.

He enjoyed playing his guitar, entertaining his friends, gardening, fishing and singing ... always the loudest in the room.

He worked in property management for over 40 years working for Robert A. Jones & Company and The Athenaeum Group over 25 years.
He attended the Belmont school system, Brown & Nichols Preparatory School in Cambridge and Syracuse University Class of 1968. He was often seen cruising the local water of the Boothbay region in his classic, WELIKIT II, as Maine was such a special part of his life.

He served as the chairman of the board of the Capitol Island Village Association very proudly for several years.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine Marie Giles. Loving father of Tamara Wallace and her husband K.J. of Arlington, Massachusetts, Todd Giles and his wife Jill of Burlington, Massachusetts, and Ashleigh Twomley and her husband Jason of Burlington, Massachusetts. Grandfather of Kenny, Sammy, Julia, Jack, Dylan, Zoey and Trevor. Also survived by his sister Deborah Watson of Boothbay Harbor. Also, loving in-laws Marilyn and Gus Lopes of Florida. He so loved his family and had many cousins, aunts and uncles, and had a special bond with three fraternity brothers he met the first day of freshman year at Syracuse and some very special friends on Capitol Island. With everyone he knew he was gentle, kind, loving, sharing, self-giving. He loved his family passionately. They were his "team." He will be missed by so many. Keep on singing and playing that guitar Good time Charlie!

A funeral was held May 13 at the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont, Massachusetts. Interment was at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
