On stage for one weekend only … an evening of favorite Broadway tunes in the Poe Theater, as Heartwood Theater and Lincoln Academy (LA) present “CenterStage ’16”, Sept. 30 through Oct. 2.

“The students perform and take care of all of the technical aspects. This showcase of solos and group numbers bursts on stage and never stops for 70 minutes; it’s upbeat and just plain fun,” notes Heartwood Executive Director Joy Braley.  “The voice coaching by Beth Preston and choreography training with Michelle Bruckner have challenged these students, and the amount of offstage work and education is very representative of both Heartwood and LA’s missions.”

With Sean Fleming’s experienced, magical touch at the keyboards supporting the 16 Midcoast student performers, the program flows seamlessly.

Annual collaborations between Heartwood and LA have provided hundreds of high school students with exception learning and performance opportunities over the past 14 years, and that rings true with this production, as well.

Director Griff Braley explains, “The level of professional vocal and movement coaching and support available to these students provides an incredible opportunity for them to grow in both skill and character, and hey – what young performer wouldn’t groove on the chance to sing and move to a backup band!”

It’s lights down and curtain up on this delightful evening of music.  With student tickets priced at a nominal $5, thanks to Heartwood’s Student Ticket Sponsor, Colby & Gale, it’s affordable entertainment for the entire family.

Curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1. There will be two 3 p.m. shows on Oct 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2 in the Poe Theater, at Lincoln Academy.  Adults tickets are $15, students $5.
