Celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week with the BRES PTO

Tue, 05/03/2016 - 2:30pm

The Boothbay Region Elementary School PTO has had a busy spring planning several events for the rest of the school year.

On April 12, PTO President Mary Baudo and Vice President Nicole Main along with Lisa Tilton from the BRES front office attended the PTO Today Expo in Randolph, Massachusetts. They browsed through the convention hall at Lombardo’s event center viewing various fundraising companies’ booths — from frozen foods to holiday shops — Little Caesars Pizza, Yankee Candle and Boston Red Sox, to name a few. They attended several lectures on PTO best practices and how to get more resources to run their organization. Recently a group gathered at the Red Cup Coffee shop to assemble gifts that will go in the teacher and staff mail boxes at the elementary school. It is a way to recognize teachers and staff and all they do throughout the year. The theme of “How SWEET it is to be TAUGHT by you” has been carried out throughout the week with cute sayings and special surprises each day.

Also planned is a Huge Indoor Yard Sale on Saturday, May 14 from 8 a.m. until noon. Admission is free. For more information, contact Anna Giles, 633-7705, or by email, annagiles1976@gmail.com. All proceeds to go to the PTO so it can have funds to do special projects such as: Teacher Appreciation Week, scholarships for kids to attend Camp Kieve, help teachers with a yearly membership to Ruth’s Reusable where teachers can get supplies for their classrooms, sponsor the Mileage Club event that the school puts on in the spring, purchase the outdoor barbecue grill for the Community Cookout, and many other things.

Also, May 26 is Red Nose Day. Each child who brings in a canned good or a nonperishable will receive a red nose to wear, showing that they support the national drive to end childhood poverty and hunger. All items will be donated to the food pantry.
