Five members of the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks swim team traveled to the University of Maine at Orono for the state finals.

The girls swam Feb. 20. Team captain Evy Case placed 13th in the 200-yard IM, and achieved a personal best time in the 100-yard backstroke. The “IM” is a combination stroke, where the swimmer uses four different strokes in order: the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Emma Pearce swam the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles.

At the boys’ meet Feb. 18, Rowan Kristen competed in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Though he did not place, he achieved a personal best with his time in the backstroke.

Swimmers Ashley Ames and Annie Bryer, both new to the team, accompanied the girls to states and swam the relays with Case and Pearce.
