Caribbean Night thanks

Sat, 04/11/2015 - 1:00pm

Dear Editor:

We, along with our Pan Fried Steel bandmates, want to thank all of our friends and supporters, old and new, who joined us at the Opera House on Saturday, April 4 for the ninth annual Caribbean Night. Your enthusiasm and energy, all the exuberant clapping, dancing, singing, conga lines and limbo bar challenges, made the start to our performance season a joyful experience for us. We thank you for coming out and helping us celebrate the end of this long, harsh winter.

This year we were privileged to have Matt Malcom of Boothbay Harbor, a senior at North Yarmouth Academy, join the band for several songs. His expertise on the tenor pan, which he learned as a student of our director Ian Ramsey at NYA, was a highlight for us and we hope showed the age range of performers our group welcomes and loves. Not only did he play in the band, he played a key role in the audience’s dancing. Thank you, Matt, for your contributions to the night’s performance.

We also want to thank the staff at the Opera House, especially Executive Director Cathy Sherrill, Technical Director Kevin Kiley, Box Office Manager Millie Santiago, Susan Brackett, Margaret Tew, and all of the Opera House friends and volunteers whose hard work, dedication, energy, organization and professionalism make this such a festive night for our band and supporters. The wonderful decorations by Kevin transformed the Opera House into a tropical island paradise that must be experienced. And we cannot forget to thank Gem, the canine Opera House greeter, whose antics make the House a home.
