Buy it up, tear it down

Mon, 01/19/2015 - 8:15am

    Dear Editor:

It saddens me that the current “Buy it up and tear it down” mentality and practice that is destroying the heart of the town of Boothbay is proceeding unchecked and seemingly sanctioned by the town’s administration and selectmen.

The Rockwell-ian street scape of Boothbay Center is disappearing for service roads and the grand vanity gated entrance to the golf course.

From all vantage points a quintessential New England village center is evaporating, lost forever.

The proposed destruction of this town’s historical fabric becomes the precursor for the urban sprawl one encounters as you enter Boothbay Harbor. Welcome to “Anywhere” In America.

Will the town of Boothbay merely become a distraction on the way to Boothbay Harbor?
