Brooke Spaulding loves cooking and designing, so she has come up with a plan to combine these interests to start a business.

Spaulding, a 2007 graduate of Boothbay Region High School, is trying to launch a baking tools business called Morsel Baking Tools (www.morselbakingtools.com). Her first product she is designing and producing is Modern Morsel Cookie Cutters for the Modern Baker. The three metal cookie cutters feature a modern pattern.

In order to get the business started, Spaulding is using the Kickstarter website to secure funding. The link to the site is www.kickstarter.com/projects/brookespaulding/modern-morsel-cookie-cutters-for-the-modern-baker.

The deadline for securing funding on the Kickstarter site is Friday, Oct. 9. She is hoping her friends and former schoolmates will be willing to help her get the business off the ground. Spaulding is offering rewards for donations, starting at just $15 and up. More information about the rewards is on the website.

Spaulding, who earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT) in Boston in 2011, lives and works in Boston. She is currently a facilities operations manager at Sodexo. She is the daughter of Larry and Lucy Ann Spaulding of East Boothbay.

"The metal cookie cutters will be manufactured in Vermont and (packaged) in Maine," said Spaulding in an email. "I really enjoy having an outlet for my design work which combines my love for baking and design. My long-term (goal) for this product is producing more great baking tools. I care deeply about this project and will do my best to solve any issues to keep this project on track and on schedule."
