BRHS track teams head to MVC championship

Boothbay Region High School outdoor track and field teams finished up the regular season with two meets last week: a Mountain Valley Conference meet in Lisbon on Tuesday, May 17 and the Class A, B and C Capital City Classic in Augusta on May 20.

At Lisbon on Tuesday, Boothbay athletes faced competitors from Lisbon, Hall-Dale, Mountain Valley and Richmond. Lisbon topped both the girls and boys scorers and Boothbay teams placed second. For the boys, Lisbon won the event with 132 points, followed by Boothbay, 110, Mountain Valley, 83, Hall-Dale, 59, and Richmond, 8. For the girls, Lisbon placed first with 133 points, followed by Boothbay, 90, Hall-Dale, 67, Mountain Valley, 54, and Richmond, 32.

Thirteen teams convened at Cony High School in Augusta on Friday for the annual “Under the Lights” multi-class track meet. Lisbon bested the boys field, scoring 127, followed by Cony, 88.5; Winthrop, 78; Mountain Valley, 59; Monmouth, 57; Erskine Academy, 53.5; Maranacook, 51; Hall-Dale, 47; BRHS 43.5; Wiscasset, 27.5; and Gardiner, 18. Monmouth won the girls competition with 100 points, followed by Lisbon, 94; Maranacook, 81; Erskine, 75; Cony, 72; BRHS 63; Mountain Valley, 37; Hall-Dale, 30; Wiscasset, 29; Winthrop, 22; Gardiner, 19; and Richmond, 15.

Several BRHS athletes excelled in both meets, clearing the way for a successful championship season. At Lisbon, Angie Perkins placed first in the 200m and 400m dash and high jump. At Cony, Perkins placed second in the 400m dash, fourth in the 200m dash, and third in the high jump.

Hannah Morley placed second in the 1600m run at Cony and first in the 800m run at Lisbon. Samantha Carter placed first in the 1600m racewalk at Cony and second at Lisbon. Lisa Pawlowski finished second in the high jump at Lisbon and fourth at Cony. Olivia Paolillo placed third in 100m hurdles at Lisbon and fourth at Cony; she placed fourth in the 300m hurdles in Lisbon. Colette Bertin finished fourth in 100m hurdles at Lisbon. Loren Genrich placed second in long jump and third in 300m hurdles and Allie Simmons finished second in the discus at Lisbon. Annielyn Mackusick placed fourth in the shot put in Lisbon.

Abel Bryer placed first in javelin and discus at Lisbon and Shane Johnson placed first in discus at Cony. Connor Demmons finished second in discus and shot put in Lisbon. Jacob Leonard finished second in 100m dash and third in the 110m hurdles at Lisbon. Draco Peaslee finished third in the 200m dash at Lisbon and fourth in the 100m dash at Cony. Matt Burnham placed second, Kyle Ames third and Blake Erhard fourth in the 800m run at Lisbon. Erhard also placed third in the 1600m run at Lisbon and Liam Conlin second in the 3200m run. Morgen Wilson placed second in the 300m hurdles at Lisbon, fourth at Cony and he placed fourth in the 1600m racewalk at both events. Jay Hasch placed second in the high jump at Lisbon.

The Mountain Valley Conference Championship meet will be held on Thursday, May 26 at Lisbon.
