BRHS girls qualify for state meet

While the boys cross country team laps up the glory, the Boothbay Region High School girls team continued their fine season by qualifying for the state championship race at the Class C Western Regional championship  meet at Twin Brooks on Saturday, Oct. 25.

“This is the third straight year the girls have qualified for the state meet,” Coach Nick Scott said. “The girls race didn’t go quite as we planned but we got lucky and made it to the states.”

Hannah Morley led the Lady Seahawk scorers, finishing 24th at 23:32, followed by Morgan Crocker (33rd, 24:09), Lincoln Hamblett (34th, 24:13), Kate Friant (65th, 26:35) and Maya Schwehm (73rd, 27:52). Genevieve Taylor finished 85th at 30:38.

Waynflete won the meet with 39 points, followed by Merriconeag, 66, North Yarmouth Academy, 120, St. Dom’s, 135, Monmouth Academy, 137, Telstar, 167, BRHS, 216, Winthrop, 216, Catherine McAuley, 228 and Dirigo, 230.

Both BRHS teams head to Belfast for the state championship meet at Troy Howard Middle School in Belfast on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Class C girls race at 11:45 and boys are set to start at 11 a.m.
