BRHS football: Thanks for the support

    Dear Editor:

On behalf of the BRHS football team, we would like to thank the Boothbay community and all those who came to our car wash on Sunday, Aug. 21. We exceeded our goal due to the generosity of those who stopped in to have their car washed or just to donate to the team. It was a good reminder of what a supportive community we live in.

At the end of the car wash, a former revered Seahawk player pulled in. He handed the boys a generous donation and told them to play and work harder than ever. It was about being dedicated and part of a team — varsity or club. His words were inspiring and his encouragement so appreciated.

As this team makes its transition from a varsity team to a club team, there is no one more disappointed than the boys, especially the seniors, and the coaches. Understandably, with the long football tradition that exists in this town, many have varying opinions about this decision and why it is necessary. No doubt, these strong feelings exist because of the emotional connection many have as former players, coaches, parents, and community members. As people discuss their opinions and post on social media, we need to remember that there is a group of committed, hard-working boys who have chosen to stick with this team despite their disappointment. In fact, many are more committed than ever to make this a successful season. They need and deserve our support, encouragement and pride as a community.

See you under the lights! Go Seahawks!
